A 47-year-old man from southern Israel is facing charges of aggravated robbery after successfully stealing nearly $8,300 from two Beersheba banks last month. He entered a Postal Bank branch at the Big Beersheba shopping mall, and handed the cashier a misspelled note demanding she hand over the cash at her counter. When the lady hesitated the man threatened to throw the object in his hand which he claimed to be a grenade. He successfully got away with $4,450. Five days later, the same man walked into another branch of the Postal Bank at the Oren Center shopping this time and repeated his previous method, brandishing a black object and threatening to blow up the place. He left the bank with $3,300 in cash. Police were able to track cellphone locations during the times of the robberies and followed several leads before finding the suspect who turned out to have a criminal record, including serving a three-year prison term for robbery. After arresting the suspect, police were able to identify the dangerous black object that was said to be a grenade…..as an avocado!
