Sprite Tabs for Habitat

How far can 10 cents a day go? Farther than you think! Sprite is giving consumers an easy and inexpensive way to give back to communities through the "Sprite Tabs for Habitat" program. During the month of April, look for specially marked Sprite or Sprite Zero™ multipacks or 12-oz single cans with a unique green tab and Habitat for Humanity logo. For each green tab consumers collect and mail in by May 30, 2010, Sprite will donate 10 cents to Habitat for Humanity, up to $500,000. It’s that easy. Enjoy your Sprite, recycle your can and send in the green tab. Visit www.spritetabsforhabitat.com for more information.  You can also drop off your green tabs at any 104.1 KRBE, ESPN 97.5 and 103.7 FM event.

Energy Tips

Here are some of the other ways to be more energy efficient this spring. Take a look:

1. Manage your thermostat. Several people mentioned setting the thermostat to between 78 and 82. Some also suggested pushing it a few degrees warmer when out of the house for extended periods of time.

2. Utilize ceiling fans. Ceiling fans produce a "wind chill" effect making the room feel cooler. This especially works when first coming inside from the sweltering sun!

3. Install efficient lighting. Many poll respondents noted that they are replacing frequently used lights with CFL bulbs and even the LED lights; They use less energy and last a lot longer than traditional bulbs.

4. Use a clothesline or a drying rack rather than a dryer. Many people mentioned using the renewable energy from the sun by line-drying clothes and linens. Here's a tip: Soften up line-dried laundry with a quick tumble in the dryer on the "no heat" setting.

5. Change AC air filters at least once a month. Not only will your AC run more efficiently, but also clean filters can help lessen the affects of the springtime allergies that some respondents mentioned.
