The Q

May 23, 2013 -- 12:54pm

I talk about the "Q" - Quick Weight Loss Center all the time. Yes, this is a paid endorsement. But YES, my results are real and everything I say about them is completely true!!! I am so thankful to everyone at the Q for helping me achieve my weight loss goal. I had honestly brainwashed myself into thinking I wouldn’t look healthy if I lost "too much" weight. Apparently, I was just trying to make myself feel better for being overweight. I lost a total of 37 pounds, and am now wearing a size 2/4… which is slightly smaller than when I was in high school! The best part is that while you’re on the Quick Weight Loss plan, they teach you about proper portion sizes, and how to prepare the foods you like in a more healthy way. I still love food, and I still eat what I want. I just don’t over-eat anymore. I am now the much skinnier, much more confident person I’ve always wanted to be. So THANK YOU Quick Weight Loss for everything you’ve done for me – and a special shout out to Rebekah & Andretta and all the ladies at the Westheimer location who guided me, taught me, and supported me on my weight loss journey.

Check out my before/ after photos:

If you are like me and have always struggled with your weight, see if the Q is right for you. They offer free consultations! Call them at 888-310-4756 and check them out online:

First timers guide to Rodeo Cook-off

Feb 23, 2013 -- 10:52am

I’ve heard many a story from Rodeo cook-off each year, but had never made it out. The biggest reason is because I heard it’s not worth it unless you have tickets to a tent. After receiving a last minute tent invite yesterday, my husband and I ventured to the Rodeo Cook-off for our first time. Here’s what I learned.

  1. Traffic and parking sucks even more than I expected. Take the day off and get there early so you don’t have to deal with it. If you’re going after work on Friday – the cash lots will be sold out so ignore the signs telling you to exit S. Main. Park off of the 610 lots (either the old Astrodome lot, or the Fannin South lot)
  2. "They" were correct about having tickets to a tent. That’s where the food and beer is, and it’s free. Or you’ve paid for a ticket to get into said tent, and food/ beer is included in your ticket price.
  3. Don’t bother trying to talk your way into a tent through a bouncer. Most of them are off-duty cops, and you’re not fooling them. However, girls can probably flirt their way into an invite (but not from the bouncer at the door).
  4. If you’re on a diet and want to stick with it; eat before you go, or expect to go hungry. I managed to stick to mine despite doing the "walk of temptation" past all the carnival food tents on the way into cook-off, and smelling all the delicious BBQ smells all night. I did however go hungry.
  5. Wear comfortable shoes. After walking from your car to whatever mode of transit will take you to the rodeo (light rail, metro bus, trolley, etc), walking through the carnival to get to the cook-off, walking all around the cook-off, and finally back again at the end of the night, you’ll do at least 3 miles of walking.
  6. Don’t plan to go anywhere else but home to shower at the end of the night. You will be covered in the lovely fragrance of eau de BBQ smoke by the end of the night. But you won’t realize it until you’re in the car on the way home.
  7. And finally - be sure to have a DD. I saw lots of swervy cars on the highways on the drive home.

Fun.

A year ago I was searching for new music on iTunes, and it suggested "We Are Young" by Fun. Feat Janelle Monae. I loved the song, but had to google it, because I thought iTunes had a typo. The band couldn’t really be named Fun., could it?

Then my new favorite "unkown" band stopped by the station, and impressed me with their down to earth personalities, and their affinity for having fun and goofing around. I became an even bigger fan at that point (see me geeking out with them).

If you haven’t checked out the whole Some Nights album yet, shame on you. It rocks – my fave is "One Foot". It’s no surprise next weeks show is sold out (I bought my tix pre-sale), or that they’ve seen as much success as they have.

With 6 Grammy nods, I’m pulling for them to get at least one of them when the show airs tomorrow night (Sunday, 2/10 at 7pm on Channel 11). And as if they weren’t already the coolest band ever, they’ve stayed humble through it all, and aren’t concerning themselves with their nominations. They just want to "crush" their performance of "We Are Young" at the Grammy’s! I’m sure they will.

Bruno Mars' 4 Lovely & Talented sisters

Feb 03, 2013 -- 6:08pm

Bruno Mars is not the only talented one in his family gene pool. His 4 sisters make up the girl group The Lylas (stands for "love you like a sister"). Not only are they gorgeous (they also have a modeling contract in the Phillipines), but they sound just as good as their famous brother. They just released their debut video for their song "Come Back". Check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nOL6P2IQj0&feature=player_embedded
