Adopt-A-Drain and you can help mitigate the flood risk around Houston

Water flowing down a residential street to a storm drain on an overcast day.

From the Houston Chronicle:

After more than a week’s worth of rain, now is a good time to remind you about Houston’s Adopt-A-Drain program. It’s a way for you to help yourself, your neighbors and the city mitigate flooding.

Through the program, you claim a drain in your neighborhood or anywhere throughout the city, name it and take responsibility over making sure it is free of debris at least four times a year.

Any seasoned Houstonian who has lived through a storm that caused flooding knows the importance of having free and clear storm drains.

While you’re at it, you can name your drain and get creative with it. Just not too creative.
