After two sold-out shows in Seattle, the fans in attendance have broken records! According to seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, Swifties caused seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake. The geology professor took note of the occurrences while moderating an earthquake group on Facebook. “I grabbed the data from both nights of the concert and quickly noticed they were clearly the same pattern of signals,” she said. “If I overlay them on top of each other, they’re nearly identical.”
Caplan-Auerbach compared the “Swift Quake” to 2011’s “Beast Quake” when Seattle Seahawk fans went crazy after a touchdown made by running back Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch. “What I love is to be able to share that this is science” she said, adding that “it doesn’t have to happen in a lab with a white coat. Everyday observations and experiences are science.” says Caplan-Auerbach. Taylor Swift took to Instagram to thank her fans for “all the cheering, screaming, jumping, dancing, singing at the top of your lungs.” as the North American leg of “The Eras Tour” draws to a close.
