The nominations for The 96th Academy Awards have been announced, though not without some scandal.

Lily Gladstone made history by becoming the first Native American to be nominated for best actress for her leading role in “Killers of the Flower Moon”, which was also nominated for Best Picture. ‘Oppenheimer’ leads the pack with a total of 13 nominations including Best Picture, Actor In A Leading Role (Cillian Murphy), Actor and Actress In a Supporting Role (Robert Downey Jr. & Emily Blunt), and more. Fellow BARBIHEIMER mates including Ryan Gosling and America Fererra were also nominated for their roles in ‘Barbie’ respectively. Notably missing from the nominations list was Margot Robbie for her titular role in the biggest blockbuster of 2023, “Barbie”. Director Greta Gerwig was also cut from the nominations list in the Best Director category. Gosling and Fererra have both made statements regarding their nominations and the notable absence of their fellow co-star. “there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot RobbieTo say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.” says Gosling. “I was incredibly disappointed that they weren’t nominated,” Ferrera says. The 96th Academy Awards will air on Sunday, March 10, 2024 on ABC. See below for a full list of nominations.
