Joe Jonas has opened up about a difficult period that followed the release of his first solo album, Fastlife, in 2011. Speaking during a recent episode of the Jonas Brothers’ Hey Jonas! podcast, he said the album’s performance affected him more deeply than he expected after years of major success with his brothers.
During the conversation, Jonas explained that he began experiencing panic attacks and physical pain as he dealt with the disappointment. Medical tests did not reveal a physical cause, and a doctor suggested that he consider therapy. Jonas said he was hesitant at first but decided to attend a session.
He later found therapy useful because it gave him a space to speak with someone outside his circle of friends and family. Jonas said professional counseling offered a different perspective and became an important source of support during other challenging periods in his life.
The experience marked an early turning point in how Jonas approached his mental health. He has since continued making music both with the Jonas Brothers and as a solo artist, including the 2025 album Music for People Who Believe in Love.
